Deeper

Too numb to move
after a long day’s swim
I give myself up to the waves.
It’s so cold as I sink down
deeper into the water.
There is a great pressure
embracing me completely.
The salt water stings my eyes
as I watch the surface fade away.
I choke as my last breath escapes,
shimmering bubbles rising up.
