I’m Scared Too

Don’t look out the window.
Just stay in my arms a little longer.
Overhead, the roar of planes can be heard.
If it all were to end right now
how would you prepare yourself?
Don’t take it all so seriously.
Try to make out my face through the smoke.
Even a fake smile can help sometimes.
I stroke your hair as I kiss you once more.
You’re shaking but it’s okay
I’m scared too.
Don’t listen to the screams outside.
Instead, embrace my heart’s beating.
Through my shirt the sound must be muffled.
If the flames were to engulf us
I hope my warmth will still mean something to you.
