The cruel silence
your gaze diverted as you held back tears.
An apology stuck hard in my throat,
courage that refused to take form.
Lost in thought I did not notice you leaving
your empty chair
a cold reminder of what I had lost.
An image seared into my vision.
Scars that will not heal
for the words unsaid can hurt the most.
